I hope you'll be celebrating #JanetJacksonAppreciationDay on February 9.

I've been illustrating her for over 30 years to help ensure her blueprint is never erased!

It is amazing how unacknowledged the influence of Janet and Michael Jackson has been in the history of the recording industry. Thanks for rectifying my perceptions.

I fancy myself a Janet scholar… well, more grad student than full-on Doctor of Janetology, but the love and impact are so great. I have so many Janet-centered core memories, including a vivid memory about the day the Love Will Never Do video premiered. Sigh.

Lately, I’ve turned to my literary guides and teachers and counsel for comfort. Morrison, Butler, D. Smith (🙂‍↕️), Ross Gay, and Jillian Hess’ Noted, to name a few. Music - entire albums and curated playlists - is also a comfort. Not as distractions, but as reminders. Of what, I don’t know yet. But I do feel safe knowing they’re within arm’s reach.

The constant comparisons of Beyoncé to MJ, while overlooking her obvious Janet aspirations will never cease to confuse me. Pleasure Principle was quite the perspective shift for 19 year old me (and my yearning-where-no-yearn-was-ever-warranted self), loved her from Good Times and Diff’rent Strokes and always will.

Surviving by doing more reading, writing, and designing my Dreaming Room in this big old house in Maine. Its necessity requires a dedicated space in these times.

I love Janet Jackson in an epic way. I think it's amazing that she's still giving a precise 8-count and full choreography in her shows. I have also seen that Joe Jackson come out when she yelled "Note!" at a keyboard player who hit the wrong key during her sows. Her genius and attention to detail don't get talked about enough at all, and she has one of the sharpest minds in the game. Plus the legacy of careers that she's built makes her a fave forever.
