Checking in from Southern California’s hot Ojai Valley. It’s quiet and weird here. I need it, because I’m exhausted. How’s your summer going?
I’m sleeping a lot, being meticulous with my supplements and water-drinking, doing some writing, and mostly adhering to my Aunt Vicki and Uncle Calvin’s plant-based diet. They switched over in their seventies, and they are serious about it.
She made me a lemony avocado toast this morning with sautéed baby portobello mushrooms. Delish. There are random paper cups of cherries around her house. As a part of her kitchen sink, my aunt has a filtered-water faucet. Lunch today was at The Farmer and the Cook. I had an oniony lentil-based veggie burger and an iced coffee thick with sweetened condensed coconut milk. I gave my Cairn, Key, the chopped Honeycrisp apples from my side salad. My uncle had a bean burrito. My aunt had cold soba noodles with shiitake. We all sat in the sun, chomping away.
