Jazz can seem intimidating. But I’m telling you: jazz is NOT scary. Or weird. Or too intricate. It’s not boring. It’s not too old. It’s forever fresh, and it informs most everything you listen to today. Jazz relaxes. It can feel like sex with the one you still miss sometimes. It can feel like prayer. You ready? My main advice: don’t rush it.
Start with a vocalist. It’s just easier. You’re getting get used to a new dialect. Learning it. Once you find some vocalists who literally speak to your heart, and where are now in life, you’ll find it easier to understand and enjoy the “voice” of various instruments and the musicians who play them.
